This is the shortest day so far for
driving, only two hours. Our
original hotel was cancelled and replaced with the Bassi Fort Palace (24km out
of Chittor). Deepak was unsure of
the Bassi Fort Palace because he hasn’t stayed here before. Normally tourists see the Chittor Fort
in a day and drive onto Bundi.
We have two nights in Chittor and one in Bundi. See how it all pans out.
Driving into Bassi, Jim and I are looking
at each other, thinking the same thing “where are we going”. Deepak was talking to himself, which
made us a little nervous.
The palace turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It is a 450 year-old palace. The entrance to the palace is a little
run down but the inside grounds, courtyard and rooms are well maintained. The rooms are beautifully decorated and
large. There are 18 rooms and we are the only guests for tonight. Hope it is not a scene from Wolf Creek
or Hostel. I’ll let you know
tomorrow if we wake up.
This afternoon we went for a walk through
the village to the lake. It is a small village. The villagers
were friendly all saying hello. Being out and about does get tiring because we attract a lot of attention (at times). We
attracted quite a few school kids eager to try out their English.
We are having dinner in the garden
tonight. Tripadvisor reports say
the food is excellent.
Going to check for hot water for a
shower. You never know your luck.
