Our next road trip (around Kerala)

My birthday rose garland drying out nicely in our room

This Saturday April 6 we will leave Lighthouse Beach for 9 days using a taxi and driver to visit Munnar for 3 days, famous for its tea plantations and mountains then Kochi (Cochin) for 3 days, famous for  its varied history and Chinese fishing boats and the final 3 days in Alleppey, famous for its backwaters and houseboats.

We will come back to Sea Flower for our last 5 days in Kerala before flying to Delhi on Saturday April 20.  We will have one night in Delhi before heading off on another 9 day road trip to Varanasi.  I'll let you know that itinerary before we leave here.

This morning at breakfast from the balcony we watched the fisherman come to shore in their traditional fishing boat.  The fisherman in the boat go out to sea, throw in the net and a few fisherman jump in as well.  They slap the water and shout to make the fish go into the net.  The dragging in of the net is a real process, a dozen or more men are on the shore and drag it in.  Whilst they drag one fisherman calls a chant and the others follow.  This ceremony happens most days.  Once the fish is divided between the fisherman they pass us along the beach walking home with their catch.  It is amazing to see the traditional ways being carried out amongst all this tourism.
