Squat toilets are still the norm in India
but most hotels and restaurants aimed at tourists have sit toilets (as well)
except for the German Bakery here in Kovalam. It is surprising because the restaurant has a squat and is
very much a restaurant for tourists.
I have loved this toilet since the first
time we went to the restaurant in search of cake. I have been back several times now and tried all the cakes (chocolate, almond, coconut, lemon and fruit crumble). The restaurant sits up high and the breeze is a blessing in the hot afternoons, sitting up there with a slice of cake and a green tea, reading and watching the swimmers and surfers.
The squat (notice sign on wall) |
The
mosaics are a piece of art. I
would love an outside toilet like this, I say outside as a spare toilet, as I don’t think it would
be fair to ask guests to squat.
Instructions on how to use a squat |
The sign displayed in the toilet is
fantastic. It gives you
step-by-step instructions on how to use a squat.
please don't buy one of these to bring home !!
